The second thing magicians don’t like is that it’s tourist/layman’s store, hence they aren’t carrying either the latest hot trick or professional equipment, it’s all just the basics plus jokes and gags, and any “pro” trick are things like head twister and swords-through-box are mainly for display but for sale at a super high prices that no knowing magician would pay. However, though majority of employees are magicians/into magic, they have sales to make due to commission, therefore they don’t have time to really be magicians with other magicians because they have to be on the look for the next person that looks interested in buying magic tricks and/or also have to perform sales pitches with specific tricks the store is pushing (as they are not allowed to perform whatever they want whenever they want). Magicians don’t like it because they expect magicians club where they can talk and jam with the employees about magic. It’s a lot of fun, as your magic journey should be. Go to Vegas, go to Houdini’s and the rest of them, and make it happen. I am not one, but have a ton of respect for those that are and who have enough intestinal fortitude to conjure up an audience in the most challenging of circumstances. ![]() If you passively walk into the store thinking things should automatically happen because your DL is the shit, well, expect to be disappointed. I compelled the visits into the fun zone by doing what any self-respecting magician does in that situation: I engaged the audience. They have overhead and salaries to cover in an overpriced mall where everyone’s selling dreams. Don’t be daft: They’re running a business in an absurdly crowded consumer marketplace, not a magic club. Yeah, they were churning DLites and Helicopter Cards for the tourist trade. I hit up two Houdini magic shops while we were there. Both loved it and will go back when the dust settles. Visited Vegas a few years ago it was a surprise birthday present for my lovely wife. ![]()
